Blood of Charlie: A Spoken Word

Two years ago, at 30,000 feet in the air, I wrote a spoken word that has haunted me ever since.

Whenever I travel, I download a few YouTube videos for the flight. Usually at least one Charlie Kirk debate makes the list. On this particular flight, I was listening to Charlie engage with young people while staring out the window at the globe beneath me.

Culture wars. Deception. Violence. The pain among our youth. It all pressed heavy on my heart. That’s when the first lines came to me, and I started typing into my phone:

“Here we all stand on God’s great green earth, yet no one, not a single person, knows what lies beneath this ball of dirt… it’s the blood of brother Abel that cries from deep beneath the hurt.”

That moment birthed a poem I originally called Blood of Abel. It was a reflection on injustice, on the very first murder in human history, and on how Abel’s cry still echoes through humanity. But today, that poem carries a new name: Blood of Charlie.

Because the cry is not just ancient. It’s modern. It’s here. And it’s now.

Reflection

Abel was the first prophet martyred for speaking truth. His blood still cries out from the ground. And as I wrote these words on that flight, I realized: the cry of injustice is not finished. It still spills into our politics, our streets, our families, and our youth.

But louder than Abel’s cry is the blood of Christ. His blood speaks not revenge, but redemption. Not guilt, but grace.

This piece isn’t just poetry. It’s lament. It’s prayer. It’s a call to wake up and live as children of God in a world that desperately needs His truth.

Charlie, this spoken word is dedicated to you.
